2nd Round, 2nd WIN For Cameron Davies and Lee Taylor in the Fiesta ST Trophy Championship, Somerset Stages Rally.
Team Cameron were Happy to arrive at Minehead on Friday afternoon after a couple of gearbox issues during the week. After noise test, scrutineering and signing on Cameron and Co driver Lee Taylor had some time spare to go over their Pace Notes while the service crew did final checks on the Fiesta ST and nominated the 6 allocated tyres to be used for the Rally.
Saturday morning Cameron and Lee set off to the first set of stages which consisted of 5 stages with a total of 18 miles. The forestry stages were very muddy and presented some difficult driving conditions for the crews. After stage 5 Cameron and Lee returned to service with a 4 second lead in the Fiesta ST Trophy class. The next 2 stages was the Porlock Toll road which is a Tarmac surfaced road. With only 15 minutes of service time available the service crew checked the car over, changed the front wheels/tyres and made adjustments to the suspension and geometry. As per the regulations all the Fiesta ST Trophy Championship cars had to use Gravel tyres for the Tarmac stages. Cameron has always been a smooth driver on Tarmac and with a season spent Circuit Racing last year paid off as he set a staggering time of 25 seconds quicker than his nearest rival over the 7 miles.
Now with a lead of 29 seconds Cameron and Lee returned to Minehead for the main service of the day where the service crew checked the car over and set it back to the Gravel settings for the afternoon stages back in the forestry.
Service was straight forward with no problems on the Fiesta ST and it was ready for the 6 stages remaining.
The stages had dried out from the morning but were rougher after all the use in the morning, neverless Cameron and Lee pushed on hard through the next 3 stages and arrived in auxiliary service with no issues with the car and had increased their lead to 58 seconds. With the final 3 stages remaining they maintained their speed through them without taking any risks and arrived back at the Finish on the seafront at Minehead with their lead of 58 seconds. This was Cameron’s and Lee’s second round of the Fiesta ST Trophy Championship and their 2nd WIN. A total of 145 cars started the Somerset Stages Rally, Cameron Davies and Lee Taylor finished 1st in Class and 21st Overall.
Thank you to all the sponsors and team to make it all possible.
