Cameron Davies and Lee Taylor Take their 3rd WIN in Style by Dominating and Winning all & 7 Stages on The Plains Rally.
The Plains Rally based in Welshpool got under way on Saturday and was the 4th round of the Fiesta ST Trophy Rally championship. Team Cameron arrived at Welshpool prepared for the demanding 7 stages ahead and after a Team discussion nominated the 6 tyres they were going to use for the Rally. The Fiesta ST championship only allows you to use 6 tyres per rally and the barcodes are recorded by the officials. The Fiesta ST class consisted of 9 competitors and Cameron completed the first stage with a 14 second lead. Two more stages followed before the crew arrived at main service in Dolgellau with a lead of 23 seconds. Cameron briefed his service crew that the stages had some rough sections and that there was suspect damage to a wheel bearing. Due to this problem he had to ease off the pace in order to preserve the car.
The Service Crew set to work on the car checking it from top to bottom with only 1 hour available before Cameron and Lee had to leave for the afternoon stages. The car was fit to go in time ready for the 4 remaining stages. The day was getting hotter and there was a lot of dust in the forestry and tyre choice would be crucial to deal with the conditions. Cameron had started the Rally with 4 Used tyres from a previous event and fitted 2 new DMack tyres to the front for the afternoon stages.
Cameron and Lee gained 10 seconds over the next 2 stages taking their lead to 33 seconds and then wisely decided to ease off the pace for the remaining 2 stages and maintain their lead, but when their stage times came in after the final stage they had pulled out another 20 seconds lead. This resulted in them winning their class by 53 seconds.
Cameron and Lee had put in an Outstanding Performance, not only by Winning by 53 seconds but also by being Fastest on ALL 7 stages and taking their 3rd Win in a row. It was a well controlled drive by keeping the pace and knowing when to back off in the rough conditions to look after the car.
Preparation has already started on the car for the next round of the Fiesta ST Trophy Championship which is the DMACK Carlisle Rally on June 11th.
